Two
Hawke Venturers are awarded GOLD Duke of Edinburgh's Award
At a recent ceremony a small number of venturers from the Auckland region were
presented with awards for achieving GOLD level in The Young New Zealanders' Challenge.
Two of them were from Hawke - congratulations to Pip & Grace from all at
Hawke, you are an inspiration to those just starting DoE.

Joins other Auckland Sea Scout groups at Okahu for Waitangi
Day
Sea Scouts cutters were highly visible on the 6th
February, being the vessel of choice for conveying dignitaries
from sailing
ships
(Breeze
and Ted Ashby) into Okahu bay for the Ngati Whatua o Orakei
Watangi day celebrations. Around one thousand people lined
the beach as a dozen cutters came alongside the sailing ships,
picking up their VIPs and delivering them to the powhiri
on the beach. It was extremely satisfying that sea scouting
has been invited to take part in the first symbolic recreation
of Gov. Hobson’s arrival in Tamaki Makarau. Following
the formal part of the ceremony, the Scouts undertook an
impromptu rowing race across the Okahu Bay, then spent the
rest of the morning sailing, rowing, canoeing, swimming and
relaxing in what was a fine Auckland summers day at the beach.
Not only did this it highlight sea scoutings involvement
in the community, it also re-enforced links with the coast
guard, harbour master and the local iwi.
The scouts were also pleased to put into practice skills
they have been learning over the winter.
