Heavy
Summer rain does not spoil summer party
There was a good turnout for the summer party - 80 sausages
were consumed. John was very dissapointed that none were left
for him when he arrived late. The Kaori cutters were rowed
around the bay full of excited Keas & Parents and a cutter
was sailed from Westhaven by a mixed crew of leaders and scouts.
The kayaks proved to be a lot of fun and a source of getting
even wetter.

Cubs
get the blue pennant
A small team of cubs gained first place in one of the largest
canoe competitions in years.
The other blue pennant was in the open class where Chris
won in rapidly deteriorating conditions.
Only two pennant this year, but thanks to all who turned
up and gave it their best.
Congratulations
to Victoria.
A long term member of Hawke and highly skilled "goalie" has
been selected to represent Auckland. This is great news,
though also sad as we will not see her as often at scouts.

Hawke
organised a spring clean for the ship on 28th October
and this also included a clean up of the beach
Independently a clean up of the Coxs Bay
was organised for the Saturday 27th.
A great turn out for the beach cleanup and spring clean - thanks to
all involved.
Our local councillor (Graeme Easte) visited and assisted on Sunday
and was really pleased with the community spirit
- our other councillor Greg Moyle sent his apologies as he had a prior
family engagement out of Auckland for the whole weekend.
Nine
members of Hawke achieve Coastguard Dayskipper Certification.
It was worth the reading and sitting for many hours over the winter, two leaders,
one parent and six scouts achieved extremely high scores in all of the day skipper
exams. The scouts also are eligible for NZQA unit credits & with a little
on the water skill testing advanced sea scout badges. The leaders and parents
will add skills to obtain charge certificates
New
Cub Leader
After many years of good service as leader of the cub pack, Brian is moving
up to scouts with his son. We would like to thank Eric for stepping forward
to take over this role.
The
Ship is in need of a major Spring Clean - Sunday 28th October
Over the course of a year we accumulate a great deal of material and the
good gets mixed up with the bad. We need a full turnout for a working bee,
starting after the first but before the second expresso or latte. If we
get enough people turning up we will also clean the beach, so that it is
not a hazard but a place to be enjoyed.
Date
set for Hawke Summer Party - Sunday 2nd December
At 12 noon all of Hawke will get together, launch all their boats
and everyone gets out on the water. Parents get the chance to take command
of the cutters and experience the enjoyment that is normally the reserve
of their children. This will be followed by a BBQ & bring a plate lunch.
Hawke
wins Swimming Sports

For the first time in many years Hawke came home from the annual swimming
competition with the A. J. Hutchison Cup. Well
done everyone.
Pennants
Refurbished and ready for display again
The vast display of pennants have been refurbished and mounted
on new felt, when required and are now ready for being put back up
on display.
They will be mounted in year order, it is interesting how the number
per decade varies. The 1960s are well represented as is the current
decade.
